As “The Center of the Universe,” Fremont is among Seattle’s most peculiar neighborhoods. The community has an active art scene with an array of annual events, including the Summer Solstice Parade, Oktoberfest, Art Walks, the Sunday Street Market, and more. Recreation abounds on the Burke-Gilman Trail, at Gas Works Park, and in the restaurants and nightlife. There is a growing tech presence in Fremont, with offices for Tableau, Google, and Adobe Systems, among others. This central location also affords seamless access to downtown Seattle and the University of Washington. Here are fourteen reasons to visit and love Fremont.

Fremont Landmarks

Fremont is known for its quirkiness and when you visit, you’ll see why. Between the massive Fremont Troll statue, located under the Fremont Bridge, to the prominent Statue of Lenin, to the “Center of the Universe” signpost, there is always something interesting and unique to see.

Fremont Sunday Market

Founded in 1990, this Sunday Market was modeled after European style markets, after the owners and founders traveled to Europe and fell in love with the concept. It runs year-round every Sunday, and features over 150 vendors offering local food, drink, jewelry, clothing, and more. It’s a great place to find special items or gifts.

Fremont Canal Park

This park runs along the north side of the Lake Washington Ship Canal and is the perfect spot for runners, bikers, and those looking to enjoy a quiet picnic or beautiful sunset views. If you go, say hello or wave at the boaters passing through the canal—everyone is super friendly!

Fremont Brewing

Probably the most popular brewery in all of Seattle, Fremont Brewing is the perfect place to grab a beer or cider after work or on a sunny weekend afternoon. Their outdoor patio is quite spacious, making it suitable for large groups of people. They don’t offer food, but they do let you bring your own, so make sure to grab a snack or takeout with you when you go.

Theo Chocolate Factory

The local chocolatier, Theo Chocolate, has its flagship factory on the shores of Fremont. They offer a couple interactive options, including a virtual chocolate making class and an in-person factory tour, during which you can taste your way through the chocolate making process. After the tour, grab some chocolate bars to enjoy yourself or give away as gifts.

Revel

If you’re in Fremont, definitely give this Korean restaurant a try. It’s been a local favorite for years and was even featured on Anthony Bourdain’s Seattle episode! Standout dishes include the Crab Noodle and Short Rib Rice, and you can never go wrong with their dumplings.

Nuna Ramen

Nuna is extremely well-known in Fremont both for their use of high-quality ingredients and for their modern interpretation of classic Japanese dishes. The real star here is the ramen, which is rich and flavorful—customer favorites include the Spicy Miso Ramen and Veggie Ramen.

Milstead & Co.

Make sure to stop into this industrial, yet cozy coffee shop—it’s a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy an excellent cup of coffee. They offer unique coffee art, so your drink will be both beautiful and delicious. If there are any left, try to snag a chocolate croissant or cherry almond scone—they are baked to perfection!

Fremont Abbey

The mission behind Abbey Arts is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages and incomes to explore live music and the arts. They offer intimate live shows for local music, visual art, spoken word, storytelling, and contemporary dance, making it a great spot to meet like-minded creative people.

Fremont Fair

Established in 1972, the Fremont Fair is a beloved Seattle tradition. Held annually in mid-June during the Summer Solstice, this is a weekend filled with eating, drinking, shopping, art, and of course the Solstice Parade, during which cyclists ride through the city wearing nothing but body paint. It’s always a very lively event!

Schilling Cider House

This cider tasting room is delicious and so fun! They encourage customers to try a tasting flight and offer an extensive menu of ciders to choose from, including Rosé Vacay, Grapefruit & Chill, and Passport, which is a blend of pineapple and passionfruit. Best of all—they sell their ciders in grocery stores if you fall in love and want more!

Crumby Sandwich & Spirits

Pop into this local eatery that serves sandwiches, salads, and craft cocktails. They like to highlight local ingredients in their meals and are on a mission to create unique and elevated flavor combinations. Grab a spot inside their beautiful restaurant and order the Crab Cake sandwich, along with the Bushel N’ Peck cocktail.

The Masonry

This popular spot, known for serving “Fremont’s finest pizza,” offers classic Neapolitan style pizzas and a wide, eclectic offering of beer. If you go, try to grab a table on the outdoor patio and make sure to order a pizza and their meatballs, which are a local favorite!

Gasworks Park

Though not technically in Fremont, this beloved Seattle park is just a short walk away. It’s a must-see in Seattle that delights tourists and locals alike. There’s nothing better than a picnic on a warm, sunny day at Gasworks Park—the view of Downtown Seattle can’t be beat!
