In Madison Park, stately vintage estates and charming tree-lined streets hearken to the city’s rich historical past yet live for today with vibrant shops and restaurants. Breathe in the fresh air and revel in the lush greenery that makes this elegant neighborhood feel like it’s a small town hidden away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle—although the center of the city is really only a quick ride away.

This mix of old and new, the ability to welcome the modern while holding onto tradition, is a quality that is uniquely Madison Park, and something that still makes this community feel a world away from the rest of the city—Seattle may change, but Madison Park has stayed (almost) the same. Here are thirteen of our favorite reasons to visit Madison Park.

Cactus

A well-known Mexican restaurant in Seattle, the Madison Park location is especially popular for its funky décor and ample outdoor seating (perfect for those warm, summer days). The handmade tortillas are to die for, and local favorites include the butternut squash enchiladas, smoked brisket tacos, and of course, their salsa!

How to Cook a Wolf

Ethan Stowell’s How to Cook a Wolf is newer on the Madison Park scene and is beloved for bringing a fine dining experience to the neighborhood. Situated in the old Bing’s location, there is a lot of room for covered, outdoor dining under the twinkling lights. The menu changes frequently and includes Italian small plates and pastas featuring northwest ingredients – if you go, make sure to order the tagliatelle or gnocchi!

Independent Pizzeria

Right across from Madison Park Beach, you’ll find the quaintest, coziest pizzeria. The small space makes it warm and inviting; though there may be a small wait for a table, it’s the perfect spot to kick back with friends and enjoy a bottle (or two) of vino and a delicious pizza. Some of the best pizza choices are the Syracuse and Twin Peaks. It’s also well-known for its Caesar salad dressing, so make sure to order that if you’re a Caesar fan!

Madison Park Beach

Situated on the shores of Lake Washington, Madison Park Beach is a favorite for both locals and non-locals alike. There are spectacular views of the lake, Downtown Bellevue, the 520 bridge, and Mount Rainier – perfect to grab a picnic and watch the boats and beautiful sights. After a day of fun in the sun, you can stop by one of the local eateries – it’s close to everything!

Washington Park Arboretum & Seattle Japanese Garden

If you’re headed to Madison Park, make sure to drive, walk, or bike through the Arboretum, an extensive park with a winding road connecting Montlake and Madison Park. The Park itself has been recently restored so it’s a great place to spend an afternoon. If you go, make sure to stop by the Seattle Japanese Garden – it’s one of the oldest Japanese gardens in North America and is regarded as one of the most authentic ones in the U.S.!

Bert’s Red Apple Market

This seemingly small neighborhood grocery store actually has a ton of great options to choose from. Outside, you’ll see beautiful flowers and in-season produce. Inside, there are rows of groceries packed to the brim – you’ll likely find some unexpected, healthier, specialty options, as well.

Madison Park Hardware

The local hardware store – this place has it all! Friendly and knowledgeable staff are there to assist you with any of your hardware needs, which is why it’s a local staple. It’s a smaller shop with more personality than most hardware stores, so it’s also fun to peruse and see what you can find.

Starbucks

Despite this one being a chain, the local Madison Park stop feels like your neighborhood coffee shop. Stop in on a Saturday or Sunday morning and you’ll find it filled with customers stopping in for coffee and a quick bite, walking their dogs, or meeting up with friends. Plus, this location offers wine and small bites in the evening, too!

Martha E. Harris Flowers & Gifts

Another local staple in Madison Park, this quaint shop offers a variety of gifts, stationary, and paper items. It’s most known for its custom flower arrangements – they have some of the most beautiful ones in all of Seattle. If you’re in need of a floral gift, don’t hesitate to stop in—they even deliver!

Madison Park Bakery

Established in 1929, Madison Park Bakery takes pride in serving old-fashioned baked-from-scratch baked goods with a fun, modern twist. Step inside and smell the delicious aromas. Some local favorites are the chocolate-covered Bavarian cream doughnuts and toffee cookies. If you’re looking for a gluten-free, dairy-free option, try the meringues, which are also delicious!

Scoop Du Jour Ice Creamery

Perfect for a refreshing treat after a hot day at Madison Park Beach, this spot serves up traditional ice cream flavors in an old-fashioned shop. It’s a classic in the Madison Park scene and residents love it!

Arosa Café

Though this one is technically in Madison Valley instead of Madison Park, it’s a great place to pop into on your way into or out of Madison Park if you’re craving a treat. They have the best hot chocolate and mochas – they use real, dark chocolate for both and taste rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious!

Nishino

Another one just outside of Madison Park, this sushi spot serves amazing, fresh sushi. Locally owned since 1995, Nishino has become a beloved mainstay in the hearts of Seattleites. Known for a modern take on the classic food, their chefs will even create surprise dishes for you, based on what’s in season, like a fresh plum sushi roll.
